Some Christmas gifts are bought. Others are built. And then there are the rare ones you build together – the kind that become memories long before the power button is ever pressed. This year, instead of surprising my sons with new gaming PCs, we decided to turn the whole thing into a shared project: two high‑end rigs, built from scratch, side by side at the dining table, with Christmas music in the background and excitement building with every component unboxed.
It wasn’t just about the final machines. It was about the process – the teamwork, the learning, the laughs, and the occasional “Where did that screw go?” moment.

Choosing the Right Core: Ryzen Power for Both Builds
We started with the AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D, a processor that’s become a favourite among gamers for good reason. The boys were buzzing when they learned how the 3D V‑Cache boosts gaming performance, and slotting the CPU into the socket felt like the first “real” moment of the build.
To keep everything cool, we installed the Cooler Master MasterLiquid 240L Core ARGB. The boys handled the radiator placement and fan orientation, and seeing the ARGB light up for the first time was a proper “wow” moment.

Memory, Storage, and Lightning Speed
Next came the 32GB Kingston FURY Beast DDR5‑5600 RGB kit. The RGB alone won them over, but explaining how dual‑channel memory works turned into a mini lesson neither of them expected to enjoy.
For storage, we installed the Crucial P310 2TB NVMe SSD. The boys couldn’t believe something so small could hold their entire game libraries and still load everything in seconds. Sliding the drive into the M.2 slot and securing it with that tiny screw felt like delicate surgery – but they nailed it.
Graphics Power: The Radeon RX 9070
The moment the ASRock Challenger Radeon RX 9070 16GB came out of the box, everything went quiet. It’s a beast of a card, and lifting it into place felt like installing the engine in a sports car. They handled the PCIe latch, I handled the alignment, and together we got it seated perfectly.
This was the part they were most excited about – imagining the frame rates, the graphics settings, the games they’d revisit just to see them in a new light.

The Foundation: Motherboard, Case, and Power
The Asus TUF Gaming B650‑PLUS WiFi motherboard gave us plenty to explore – from fan headers to M.2 slots to RGB connectors. It became a hands‑on lesson in how everything talks to everything else.
We built inside the Phanteks Eclipse G370A, a case that made cable management surprisingly fun. The boys took charge of routing cables behind the motherboard tray, and by the end they were proudly showing off how clean the build looked.
Powering everything is the Corsair RM1000e, a fully modular 1000W PSU. The boys loved choosing only the cables we needed and clicking them into place like high‑tech Lego.
The Best Part: The Build Was the Gift
When we finally pressed the power buttons and both PCs lit up in perfect RGB harmony, the room erupted. Not just because the systems worked flawlessly, but because we’d built them together – every screw, every cable, every decision.
Instead of unwrapping a finished gift, they unwrapped an experience. And that experience turned into two incredible gaming PCs they understand, appreciate, and feel genuinely proud of.

Final Thoughts
Building these PCs together turned Christmas into something more meaningful than anything I could have bought off a shelf. It was hands‑on, creative, and full of moments we’ll all remember – from the first component installed to the first game launched.
And now, every time they sit down to play, they’re not just using a machine.. they’re using something they helped create.
